Backing Up Your Files

Zip Disks:
A Zip disk is similar to a floppy disk but will hold 100 or 250 Megabytes of data (depending on ZIP drive capacity).

CDs:
CD's hold 650-800MB depending on which kind you buy. The Computer Resource Center now has two computers with CD writers.

We strongly encourage all students to back up their computer files on either floppy disks (for small files - usually text), Zip disks (for large files - usually graphics), or CDs (large files).

Hardware Available

One of the computer systems at school has a ZIP drive built-in where the ZIP cartridge is inserted. Note! a ZIP cartridge will not fit into a floppy drive! After, insertion of the Zip cartridge, drag the files to be copied from the hard drive to the Zip drive.

The same computer, as well as one other computer, has a CD writer. The necessary software is located on the desktop for your convenience.
