Introduction
This document describes the purpose and guidelines for the deployment of the Computers in Medicine (CIM) computer system and student web site.
Purpose
The purpose of the CIM computer system and med student web site is to provide a tool that promotes medical students to utilize computers in their medical education as well as in their future medical careers. The CIM system will also provide a medical student web server for all medical student organizations (such as the COOP, student clubs, etc.) to maintain their own World Wide Web sites. In addition, the CIM system will also provide any medical student to create their own home page.
Operation
The CIM computer system will be operated by the medical student club "Computers in Medicine". Two members of the club will act as system administrators and will be responsible for the operation of the system. To ensure continued system administration of the system, system administration duties will be passed on to new students when existing system administrators leave for third year hospital clerkship. Dr. Walsh and OCS will be notified of the names of the new administrators.
Faculty Advisor
Dr. Robert Cardiff will act as the faculty advisor for the medical student computer system. He will resolve any situations that require faculty involvement.
OCS Involvement
OCS will provide CIM with a protected space to house the CIM computer system and will allow the computer system to be attached to the OCS local area network. Since the computer system is attached to the OCS network, Mike Case will be given a system administration account. He will only use this account in emergency situations when it is necessary to access the system if it is affecting network operations or if the administration needs to assure that the site operation is being conducted within University policy.
Web Site Policies
The medical student web site home page will clearly identify that the web site is created and maintained by the CIM medical student group and information contained in the site is not represent official UC Davis Medical School information. At the bottom of the medical student web site home page will clearly contain students' names and e-mail addresses responsible for the medical student web server and content.
All medical students will be given the privilege of an account and of creating a web site for their organization or for themselves as long as they agree to the following medical student web policy:
