Mission statement for the AMA-MSS UC Davis Chapter

As the medical student section of the nation's largest medical advocacy group, we will make every effort to remind students and physicians of the larger issues that compelled us all to become doctors, what it was that drove us to study, and to encourage us to not only practice, but try to advance, the art of medicine.

We will utilize and extend our resources at the campus, county, state and national levels to meet the needs of our colleagues and our community of service. One goal is to raise the awareness of the advantages of being a member of organized medicine and the need for leadership and activism in all areas of medicine now and throughout the future. Our chapter will address these goals through activities and projects such as:

• Delegation to represent a voice and policy advocacy for medical students and their patients at events such as Legislation Day in Sacramento and meetings throughout the year.
• Improving medical education by building upon the strengths of the current curriculum and addressing the weaknesses. For example, we have organized a lecture series on the "Nuts and Bolts of Being a Physician" which addresses practical aspects like payment mechanisms and malpractice insurance.
• Advancing issues of public wellness, community service, ethics and health policy. We are organizing a Homeless Project to extend care and advocacy to this traditionally underserved population.
• Providing value to its medical student members and encouraging the education of future members by building channels of communication between medical students, faculty, and community physicians.
