Who We Are: We are a group of UC Davis Medical Students, Pre-Medical Students, Faculty and Staff with a common interest in promoting careers in the health sciences to students in underserved communities.
What We Do: We bring students from communities around Sacramento and Yolo counties to the UC Davis School of Medicine, Davis Campus, for four consecutive Saturdays to provide them with hands-on opportunities to learn about health, science and higher education issues while gaining study and leadership skills.
When Do We Do This: The Saturday Academy is set to run during the Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 quarters. During the Winter Quarter we will be visiting local high schools for one-day presentations.
Why Do We Do This: We strongly believe that the first step to a successful future is knowing what your options are. Many of the students that we work with believe that their options are very limited. By providing mentorship and direction we believe that we can help students see beyond the illusion of the boundaries of their socio-economic status. In the program's first year, we received wonderful feedback from students, parents and faculty. We look forward to continuing it in 2002-2003!
How Do I get Involved: If you are a current UC Davis Medical Student or UC Davis Undergraduate and wish to get involved please contact Randy Young (rxyoung@ucdavis.edu).
